Aspirin Prevents Blood Clots
Aspirin
is considered a blood tinner. It comes in different doses, but the 81
mg is the most common one used in patients with high blood pressure,
diabetes, or high cholesterol. Blood clots remain a serious problem
worldwide because they are linked with heart attacks, stroke, and
sudden death.
Certain
conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes create a
thickness to the blood which allows it to clot more easily. Over
time, patients who have high cholesterol will develop an increased
risk of blood clots as well.
Aspirin
has been proven to reduce the risk of blood clots over time. It is
also given to patients actively having a heart attack when the
present to the emergency department.
There
are side effects aspirin which may include stomach irritation,
bleeding ulcers, or allergic reactions.
