What are Common Warts? How to Get Rid of Them?

There are many different types of warts. Many warts are caused by human papilloma virus or HPV. The top layer of the skin grows very quickly creating a scaly, irritated area. Warts can grow on different parts of the body and affect all age groups. It is possible to spread warts by touching other people, sharing towels, personal items, or hygiene products. Warts are very easily seen on fingers but can be very painful on the bottom of the foot.

There are several over-the-counter treatments for common warts. These include salicylic acid which is applied to the wart at night and then pared down using a nail file the following day. Repeating this over several weeks will help the body to regrow healthy skin.

Another option is the duct tape method. Basically a piece of duct tape is applied over the wart and left in place for several weeks. There are chemicals in the duct tape that will kill the infection. Many warts require sunlight to grow and one theory is that removing sources of nutrients for the wart will dry them up.

Clinic options include freezing with liquid nitrogen, an injection of medicine into the wart, or surgery by a dermatologist.

Talk to your doctor today if you think you have warts. It is better to treat them before they infect your family members and friends.
